After becoming a practicing Catholic, she began to write fiction. Her first short story was 'The Doves,' which were published in Harper's Bazaar, and 'To the Lighthouse' won the Hugo Award for best short story.Since then, she has written five novels, three collections of short stories, and one novel in progress. One of her most recent novels, Paper Topic Pride and Prejudice, was made into a BBC miniseries.The five novels in this collection deal with subjects such as ma rriage, sexuality, and the importance of people not being afraid to express their views, especially those of the strong and the powerful. The three books, Pride and Prejudice, Up the Ladder, and Up the Ladder and Back, are loosely connected with each other and the mini-series Pride and Prejudice: An Introductory Novel that took place during the Victorian era. The story arc, written as an introduction to the novel, follows a young married couple and their eldest son, who discover a new friend that takes him to a town where he meets many challenges, some that will challenge his views about relationships, he says.'Eleanor Bent (Short Stories) includes lesbian lovers and the general state of society in early Victorian England,' according to the publisher. This novel is full of emotions and gives a vivid representation of what people felt.The next title, 'Up the Ladder and Back (Poetry) includes a story about a bisexual people in a small town, who eventually realizes that some people mig ht be dangerous and a tale of an incestuous relationship with a sister. 'To the Lighthouse (Nonfiction) tells the story of a lighthouse keeper who wrote to let his name be used because he didn't want to be accused of being a traitor, he was always faithful to his wife and children.' This book was first published in an edition of only one hundred copies.'Eleanor Bent (short stories) tells the story of a lesbian lover and their attraction to the same sex. In a section that might seem more like a love story, the characters narrate the years they spent together and later discover that they were destined to spend their lives together.'There is no doubt that the stories in Paper Topic Pride and Prejudice will intrigue readers, especially those who are interested in lesbian love and relationships.
